If Vanderpump Rules were to return for season nine, how would viewers expect it to look?  And how could Bravo deliver on that?

Now that we know Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni have been let go from Vanderpump Rules, all eyes are on the rest of the cast.  That leaves 14 other cast members: Ariana Madix, Brittany Cartwright, Jax Taylor, James Kennedy, Katie Maloney-Schwartz, Lala Kent, Scheana Shay, Tom Sandoval, Tom Schwartz, Beau Clark, Charli Burnett, Danica Dow, Dayna Kathan, and Raquel Leviss.  Of those 14, Jax, Lala, and Brittany still have a lot of nonsense to speak for.  That leaves 11 members of the cast left to entertain, with most of them being new.

It isn’t that the new cast members aren’t entertaining on their own, it just doesn’t make as much sense as Vanderpump Rules.  Half of them work at TomTom and don’t even set foot in SUR, while the rest don’t work at either.  Jax shows up to harass customers behind the bar for filming, but we could definitely do without him.

A slippery slope

The idea of “cancel culture” is a phenomenon that didn’t really exist ten years ago in such terminology.  Merriam-Webster defines the movement as, “To cancel someone (usually a celebrity or other well-known figure) means to stop giving support to that person.”  They suggest some early celebrities that were canceled would be “Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson, Roseanne Barr, and Louis C.K.”  For one unsavory reason or another, people decided to drop these people like hot potatoes due to their actions.

The recent firings of Stassi, Kristen, Max, and Brett would be considered part of this because after they offended viewers with the actions (and tweets), the fanbase largely stopped giving support to them.  In fact, they encouraged other viewers and companies to stop supporting them as well.  It begs the question – where does it end?

Lala has been nothing but offensive with her comments about Tupac Shakur “taking over her body” and threatening to “pop” her castmates.  She was awful to Scheana throughout the season and even apologized to her at the reunion.  Jax is literally rage spiraling out of control, and Brittany might have been implicit in the Faith Stowers debacle but wasn’t dragged down with the others.

How would Vanderpump Rules look if it returned for a ninth season?  Do people really want to see more of Jax yelling at his friends and Dayna dating other staff members?  I’m not sure Bravo even knows the answer to that right now.

Lisa Vanderpump still hasn’t commented on any of the matters at hand, even though it is her show.  Oh to be a fly on those walls right now…
