Vanderpump Rules: The show is officially NOT canceled after 8 seasons
By Amanda Cline
Andy Cohen spoke out about season 9 of Vanderpump Rules after some firings and a long hiatus off the air during the pandemic but thinks the show isn’t done.
And just like that, Vanderpump Rules is coming back at some point after 8 very dramatic and mostly interesting seasons. While a lot of people thought the show was over after losing some main cast members, it seems Andy Cohen thinks things will be fine when they eventually get back to filming. Vanderpump Rules started back in 2013 as a show to follow Lisa Vanderpump’s Sexy Unique Restaurant in Hollywood, California.
Amid rising Coronavirus cases, restaurants in California have been forced to close for dining again, which means there is no filming going to be done anytime soon. Lisa’s restaurant Villa Blanca closed for good earlier this year, and there are rumors floating around that there might be another closing sometime soon. However, Andy spoke on his Sirius XM show, Radio Andy, about the future of Pump Rules and how he is excited for it to return eventually.
And who is left? Lala Kent, James Kennedy, Scheana Shay, Tom Sandoval, Katie Maloney-Schwartz, Tom Schwartz, Ariana Madix, and “the new people,” aka Charli Burnett, Danica Dow, and Dayna Kathan. “That’s a solid cast,” Andy said. While it was said that no one’s contract was being renewed before, it doesn’t seem that is the case now. He did clarify he has no idea when they would be able to start filming again, but he was excited to see where the show would go now.
Jax and Charli didn’t get along well on the show because Jax thought he was above Charli and that she needed to know her role on the show, but my, how the turn tables! Charli tweeted out last week, “I guess I do know my role, and it’s employed.” What an absolute zinger.
After Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute were fired, it was clear that the show as we know it was done. This week, Jax said he was leaving the show after he was fired. Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni were also fired for racist tweets that resurfaced. In the past, these characters were a huge part of the hit reality show, but we can move past that.
Bravo has iron-clad non-compete clauses in all of their contracts, so even though they were not renewed, the fired cast cannot sign on for another show for a bit. It sounds like Jax is very confident in getting a show on another network, but I think he is overestimating his fan base at this point. Maybe WE TV has some sort of agreement to share the talent. So generous!
Vanderpump Rules is on Bravo….for reruns.
