Lisa Vanderpump: Stassi Schroeder was “stupid and ignorant,” not racist
By Amanda Cline
Lisa Vanderpump spoke about her former Vanderpump Rules star, Stassi Schroeder, being fired for being racist and ignorant. Or maybe not?
Lisa Vanderpump was on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast in an episode titled “Lisa Vanderpump On The Future Of Vanderpump Rules, Housewives Juice, Grief, & How To Forgive.” The topic was the firings of Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni earlier in the summer for various racially-charged situations.
Stassi and Kristen were fired for their treatment of Faith Stowers and allegedly calling the police on her for no reason. In the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, their behavior called for repercussions from Bravo in order to show their support of the moment and to denounce the behavior of Stassi and Kristen.
Most notably, Stassi had a lot of issues on her podcast and with her behavior on the show that did not sit well with viewers. Lisa commented, “It wasn’t just one remark, and I think the fact that she was proactive in calling with this whole Faith situation just was not the way to handle things.” She noted that it was an accumulation of things Stassi had said and done over eight seasons that led to Bravo firing her.
Lisa said she didn’t hear the podcast with Stassi but did hear the “nazi chic” drama that went along with it, but she definitely did not agree with Stassi and Kristen’s behavior. “It wasn’t right what they did at all, but do I think they’re racist? 1,000 percent not…Do I think it was a racist action? Not at all. I just think it was just awful timing, and stupid and ignorant.”
On Stassi’s now-defunct podcast, Straight up with Stassi, she chose to complain about a lack of diversity at the Oscars that annoyed her.
"“I’m like, really sick of everyone making everything about race. … I’m kind of over it. Everyone giving their impassioned speeches about race and all of that stuff, I’m like, ‘Why is it always just about African Americans?’…And whenever they get upset everyone has to go above and beyond to then make them happy. And I hate saying the word ‘them’ because I’m not … not everybody’s the same. I mean the ones that are out there bitching about things.”"
Of course, she is referring to Black people when she says “them.” The hosts of the pod, Lauryn Bosstick, and Michael Bosstick, said that Stassi had a lack of awareness about what she said on her podcast and on the show which left Bravo with no choice but to fire her. Unfortunately, Stassi has lived a very privileged life and instead of doing something good with her advantaged, she chose to be ignorant.
It is kind of sad Lisa won’t hold Stassi responsible for what she did, but we suppose that is par for the course with show biz. Is Lisa holding out to bring Stassi back at some point? God, we really hope not.
The Real Housewives of Orange County is on Wednesdays at 9 PM ET on Bravo.
