Vanderpump Rules: Pondering life without the show as we know it
By Amanda Cline
There is still no news about Vanderpump Rules and even the most die-hard of fans seem to have accepted that it might not be coming back again.
Since the eighth season of Vanderpump Rules wrapped in June, rumors about the future of the show have run amok. First, the network and production company fired Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni before the season even finished airing. Stassi announced that she and Beau Clark were pregnant with a girl, followed by Lala Kent and Randall Emmett, Jax Taylor, and Brittany Cartwright, and most recently, Scheana Shay and Brock Davies.
This week, E! put out an exclusive article about the future of Vanderpump Rules which left us with more questions than answers. According to their source, there is no definitive timeline for the show to return. “With so many uncertainties during the COVID pandemic, showrunners are telling the crew that the show has not been cancelled, but the upcoming season is currently on hold,” the source said.
Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurants were closed throughout the summer and only recently reopened, but with a lot of safety precautions in place. The cast seems to have moved on and started families, which is in stark contrast to their usual immature behavior on the show. What would they even film at this point? Baby showers? First birthday parties? A bris? And after all this time, interest in the show seems to be waning with each passing day.
Things are different in California, but almost all of the usual Bravo shows have gotten accustomed to filming around the whole pandemic thing. Filming has resumed on most shows and they are even back to in-person reunions…except for Vanderpump Rules. Is this because of the rumors following Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd? Is it a lack of interest? Too many horrible people to keep supporting? We’re not sure at this point.
The fact that E! is reporting on this makes us skeptical, too. What if the show simply moved networks? Jax was never officially fired and would relish in the chance to show the world how Brittany makes him unseasoned chicken every night. It just doesn’t seem to have the staying power like it used to, but they did just cancel Keeping Up With The Kardashians after 14 years.
Watching the main characters of the show do what they got famous for isn’t very entertaining anymore. It mostly elicits feelings of, “How old are you guys?” Is a move to E! the move? Probably not, but that means they’ll likely try it anyway.
Vanderpump Rules is on Bravo….for reruns.
