Vanderpump Rules: Dayna Kathan’s sexy Ruth Bader Ginsburg costume
By Amanda Cline
Vanderpump Rules star, Dayna Kathan, decided that a sexy Ruth Bader Ginsburg costume was the right move for Halloween 2020…but it was not.
Dayna Kathan made her debut on season 8 of Vanderpump Rules and spent most of her time chasing the scummiest boys on the franchise, i.e. Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni. Both of them were fired for their old racist tweets that resurfaced, but they should have been fired for their terrible style and greasy hair. Anyway, Dayna decided to dress up as a sexy Ruth Bader Ginsburg for Halloween and it went about as well as you would think it would.
Check out the photo on her Instagram to see the full costume, complete with lace lingerie, fishnet stockings, black pumps, and her signature lace collar. But for Ruth, this collar wasn’t a sexy addition to an outfit. It was a nod to everything she stood for: choice, power, and a statement. According to The New York Times, the standard supreme court outfit was made for men.
The uniform had space for a men’s shirt and tie. Ruth took this and her intent was not to make it more girly, but to make it a powerful statement of femininity. Where a tie normally belongs, she put a lace collar to make a declaration. “The idea was to claim what was a traditionally male uniform and unapologetically feminize it,” Vanessa Friedman said.
So while Dayna thought (if she thought at all) she was being cute and fun with her RBG costume, she was really stepping on the face of everything Ruth was trying to avoid. The utmost disrespect for someone who worked tirelessly for women to be able to wear stupid sexy costumes if they wanted to.
While Ruth wanted women to be able to make choices and embrace their sexuality however they felt necessary, this was not the right way to do that. A disrespect to someone who worked so hard for women like Dayna, women like all of us!
As we enter into election week in one of the most trying times for our country in recent years, with riots, new supreme court justices that are working against women’s rights, a global pandemic, and just overall negativity…Dayna’s costume is just not it.
Vanderpump Rules is on Bravo….for reruns.
