The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne snapped at a fan this week when they requested credit for a photo Erika shared on Instagram.
Erika Jayne posted a fan-created meme to her Instagram account earlier this week. In some cases, this could be a great exposure opportunity for the creator of the photo. Imagine that! Erika herself posted the meme you made and now everyone gets a chance to marvel at it. But that’s definitely not how it went down with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star this week.
The account, @brandsbybravo, posted a photo of RHOBH’s Erika Jayne, Lisa Rinna, and Robyn Dixon from The Real Housewives of Potomac all wearing the same pink Rotate Birger Christensen “No. 23 Jacquard Blazer Dress” and compared them to Rizzo, Frenchy, and Marty from Grease. Erika posted the photo and didn’t offer any credit to Danielle, who created the account, which is pretty standard stuff.
Danielle (@brandsbybravo) posted a story asking Erika to credit them for the meme, and it all went downhill from there pretty quickly. She noted she was disappointed to be scrolling through Instagram to see her favorite housewife had seen the meme but failed to mention who made it.
In the comments of the post, Danielle asked for credit. Erika responded that the photo belonged to Bravo and Paramount but complimented the mean, calling it “cute.” Danielle replied again noting the original pictures did belong to Bravo and she credited them for it, but was hoping one of her favorite housewives would still tag her.
"“The way to get more “ credit “ [sic] for your “ ideas” [sic] is to come up with your own and stop leaving comments on my page about how you feel wronged. These images do not belong to you. Now go make some interesting [expletive] that I can promote 💕”"
The exchange was nothing short of cold, something Erika is often accused of being. In today’s weird times, sometimes a single tag from a huge following like Erika’s can send small creators into semi-meme-creator-stardom. She obviously liked the creation enough to steal it, but not to credit the person who thought of it.
In the grand scheme of things this probably isn’t a big deal, but it doesn’t excatly make Erika look good. It would have taken a lot less time to simply credit the creator and go on about her day. Instead, she argued, talked down to a fan, and didn’t end up giving any credit where credit was due. She did update the Instagram caption to say, “Photo credit @kylerichards18 ❤️,” though, so…At least we have that.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will be back next year on Bravo.
