The next season of Southern Charm is a critical one for the series, but it seems to be veering in the wrong direction already if Thomas Ravenel is involved.
Southern Charm has faced all kinds of difficulties while filming for season 7. The season started filming back in 2019 but was apparently abandoned because the footage was sub-par. They added some new cast members, Leva Bonaparte and John Pringle, and made Madison LeCroy a main cast member. But now, the rumors are surfacing that Thomas Ravenel is in the first episode for whatever reason.
While the rest of the shows are getting some forced diversity and cutting problematic people from the cast, Southern Charm is full speed ahead with their awful cast. Back in May, Cameran Eubanks, Naomie Olindo, and Chelsea Meissner announced they were done with the show after Kathryn Dennis used the monkey emoji when Tweeting a Black podcaster. Then in July, Ravenel announced he was again a father.
The show has been criticized for romanticizing plantations and slave ownership. The group apparently showed up to film when a statute of Vice President John C. Calhoun was removed due to his defense of slave ownership. The general consensus was that it was very performative and only done for the cameras. Another ding for Southern Charm.
Ravenel has been Tweeting about the show lately, mostly about how he despises it and insulting our potential Vice President. But based on their filming schedule, it would make sense that they discuss his new child near the start of the season. In previous seasons, they didn’t even mention his name in fear of being sued, but now he’s coming back to show his face? Say it isn’t so!
There is no confirmation of his return from Bravo yet, but fans of the show are very wary that it is a possibility. With the last episodes of season 6 airing in August of 2019, Southern Charm has one shot to make this season good…or it might be the end of the series.
Southern Charm will be back Oct. 29 on Bravo.
