The season six Southern Charm finale was last night, and it was extra long – but contained very little resolution for the cast.
Southern Charm had a transitional season, if you will. Thomas Ravenel is no longer a part of the cast, Kathryn Dennis took on a bigger role, and we tried to steer clear of crazy Ashley Jacobs – to no avail. Eliza Limehouse took the role of instigator and spent her time this season waiting for someone to bring up Thomas or Ashley so she could remind us she knows them.
A good transition
Kathryn did her best to be a better friend and adult. Sometimes she didn’t answer her phone for days on end, but she apologized after. Sometimes she cried on the floor of the fabric store, but she pulled herself together for her kids.
A bad transition
On the opposite side of things, Shep Rose did his best to be a terrible friend, and act like a child. At last night’s finale party, Shep brought the girls from the Austen video. The one where Madison LeCroy finds Austen in bed with two random girls.
Shep brings the girls as his date for the party and offers one of them to be Craig Conover’s date as well. I like to think Craig was none the wiser.
When this show began, Shep was cute, funny, drank a little too much, but was generally bearable. These days, Shep berates homeless women, drinks a lot too much, and gets joy out of hurting his closest friends. When he walked into the party last night, you could just FEEL how much joy he got out of upsetting Austen and Madison.
Goodbye Ashley
At the very end of the night and the episode, Ashley sauntered in with a friend. She got about three words out before Patricia Altschul had her security guard promptly remove her. I’m almost positive his entire purpose that night was to find and remove Ashley. Ashley immediately called Thomas, who told her to call 911.
That’s rich coming from a convicted felon. The episode ended with Ashley deciding against calling the police and walking off into the night. This cast all has a lot of growing up to do…what will season seven bring?
Part one of the reunion is on at 9 PM ET, Wednesday, Aug. 21, on Bravo. Part two airs Wednesday, Aug. 28.
