Taylor Swift makes surprise album announcement at the Grammys
By Lacey Womack
Taylor Swift fans had two big reasons to be excited for the Grammys on February 4: she was up for six awards, meaning that she could take home her 13th win, and they were hopeful that she was going to use the award show to announce Reputation (Taylor's Version). As of the award show, Taylor Swift has re-recorded all of her pre-Scooter Braun masters purchase albums except her self-titled debut and Reputation. At the Grammys, Taylor Swift did announce that she has an album coming out in April...
...But it's not Reputation (Taylor's Version).
At the award show, Taylor Swift landed her 13th Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal Album for her album Midnights. As Swifties know, 13 is Taylor Swift's lucky number, so she used the acceptance speech for such a lucky Grammy win to announce that she's been keeping her upcoming album a secret for "two years" and quipped that she was dashing backstage to post the cover for her fans to see.
"I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. But I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans. So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I've been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19."
Along with revealing the release date at the award show and sharing the cover for her fans, she announced that the album will be titled The Tortured Poets Department.
Some Swifties were quick to point out that the title seems to be a reference to Taylor Swift's ex, Joe Alwyn. Alwyn previously revealed that he and actor Paul Mescal are part of a group chat that they refer to as "The Tortured Man Club." Does this mean that Taylor is finally going to be revealing the fallout of their relationship?
Even though Swifties still have to wait for Reputation (Taylor's Version) to be announced -- and some fans believe that there won't be an announcement and that it will be released as a blind surprise -- there's still a lot for them to celebrate after Taylor Swift won not only her 13th Grammy, but also Album of the Year for Midnights.
