2023 was a massive year for Kelly Clarkson. The Voice coach released her first album in six years, Chemistry, which was clearly influenced by her divorce. The American Idol winner was married to music manager Brandon Blackstock for seven years, giving birth to two children, River Rose and Remington Alexander. Clarkson filed her divorce in 2020 which was then finalised in 2022.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE.com, Clarkson revealed that her divorce had a massive effect on her mental health. Writing her album helped her get through depression after the ‘extraordinarily hard’ divorce, helping her get to the best version of herself.

“I didn’t see it other than: This is my outlet. I’m a let-go person; I don’t hold grudges. So it was really delving into what happened in my life and why—and what am I going to do about it?” she said referencing her album, Chemistry.

“I cannot express how appreciative I feel for having that kind of healthy outlet. Because the level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard. You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming”, she added.

With Season 5 of her enthusiastic talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, the American Idol winner said she was taking her power back.
