It seems like Britney Spears is ready to forgive and forget and move on from her past with Justin Timberlake. Following the release of his new single, "Selfish," Britney Spears surprised fans by speaking up to say she's "in love" with the song -- and respond to some of the criticism she got for her memoir.
Sunday, Britney Spears took to her Instagram account to share a video of Justin Timberlake during his Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon appearance and used the caption to tell everyone that she loves his new songs "Selfish" and "Sanctified," saying she's "in love" with the former while the latter can be summed up with a single word: "wow."
In the same post, Spears took a moment to apologize to the critics of her memoir, The Woman in Me.
"I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry," she wrote before going on to use the rest of the post to compliment her ex, Justin Timberlake, on his new music.
The pair dated in the early 2000s after having been co-stars on The Mickey Mouse Club and later reuniting when she started opening for NSYNC during their tour. The pair were the subject of media speculation throughout their relationship before breaking up in 2002. Over two decades later, Britney Spears gave a private glimpse into their relationship in her memoir.
"It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she revealed in her book when discussing the fact that she found out she was pregnant while she was in a relationship with Justin Timberlake. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."
Following the release of her book, many fans were critical of Justin Timberlake because of the news and when he released his song "Selfish," fans instead chose to stream Britney Spears' 2011 song of the same name.
Because of this, Britney Spears' song was in the #2 spot on the iTunes charts while Justin Timberlake's new single followed behind at #4.
While Britney's fans have chosen to take her side in this, it's nice to see her being supportive of someone that she was once so close to and giving his comeback music a shoutout.
