Were Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee involved in Pam & Tommy?
By Diana Nosa
With the Hulu miniseries Pam & Tommy officially premiering this week, viewers have been wondering how the real faces behind the characters feel about their portrayals.
While actor Sebastian Stan might’ve had a little help from the celebrity he’s portraying, it seems that his counterpart, Lily James, wasn’t too fortunate in this category. So, how do Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee really feel about the new Hulu series? We tell you everything to know below.
How Pamela Anderson feels about Pam & Tommy
Though she hasn’t provided an official statement, it can be assumed Pamela Anderson does not have positive feelings towards the show. She is not involved in it at all, and it seems she ignored the creators of Pam & Tommy when they reached out to her prior to releasing the show.
Entertainment Weekly reports that executive producer Seth Rogen and the rest of his team had to continue on with the show without Anderson’s permission.
“We didn’t get a response,” Pam & Tommy showrunner D.V. DeVincentis told the media outlet. “But considering what she’s been through and the time that we were reaching out, that was understandable.”
Despite not getting the thumbs up (or thumbs down) from Anderson, the series’ creators were firm in their view that Anderson and Lee were “victims of a crime,” hence why they wanted to ensure the final product was something the former couple would approve. They didn’t want to mimic the public scrutiny that went down when the the infamous sex tape dropped.
Fortunately, in the end, it seems the creators avoided creating any bad blood, going so far as to actually impress musician Tommy Lee.
How Tommy Lee feels about Pam & Tommy
As mentioned earlier, unlike Anderson, Lee was vocal on how he felt about Pam & Tommy, going out of his way to talk to Sebastian Stan. Though it doesn’t look like Lee was directly involved in creating the series, he does approve!
In an interview with US Weekly, Lee stated:
"I know Sebastian, he’s playing me. From what he’s told me, it’s a really beautiful story. […] I think a lot of people would think it’s [about] one thing, but it’s really about privacy and how things got crazy then. There’s different laws now. […] The story’s actually cool. What actually happened wasn’t, but [Stan] tells me it’s pretty wild"
Currently, we do not know if Lee has tuned in to the Hulu series, but it’s safe to say he believes it will do his story justice.
“It’s a cool story and people need to know,” Lee expressed prior to the show’s release. “It’s cool. I’m stoked.”
Pam & Tommy drops new episodes every Wednesday on Hulu.
