Wendy Osefo might come off as bragging about her degrees on The Real Housewives of Potomac, but we have to consider her upbringing.

There has been much discussion about Wendy Osefo and all of her degrees on The Real Housewives of Potomac.  Some viewers said they were tired of hearing her talk about her achievements but if Wendy isn’t allowed to discuss how hard she’s worked, what’s the point?  In contrast to some shows that only discuss trivial things, shouldn’t we be celebrating achievements as Wendy has?

Perhaps the issue comes down to the way Wendy brings up her degrees.  The other ladies generally don’t discuss their educations too much, but Wendy is proud and brings hers up a lot.  In her home, we can imagine that such topics were probably a huge part of their daily discussions so it would be normal to talk about it more.

It does seem like there might have been some competition between Wendy and her sister when they were growing up.  Since they were both so accomplished, we can assume that there was a lot of competition in their home.  Having the best education and being “the best” was probably incredibly important to them and therefore Wendy spent a lot of time discussing it.  It’s one of those things that doesn’t just happen at the drop of a hat.  It takes a lot of planning and hard work to get through a doctorate course and with that comes a lot of discussions.

On another note

It seems that a lot of viewers of The Real Housewives of Potomac don’t have an issue with Wendy and her degrees, but have an issue with how she uses the knowledge.  The way she uses her degrees to tear some of the other women down for not having such an education comes across as a bit backward.  Perhaps if she used her knowledge to help build the other women up instead of making them feel bad, it wouldn’t come across as so braggadocious.

We know that Karen Huger mentioned not finishing college because she was sexually assaulted during her time there.  “The fact that I survived is part of my reality and I’m hoping that message resonates with the viewers,” she said to Page Six.  We don’t know about the other women, but everyone has their own story.  We shouldn’t have to put others down for their experiences simply because they were not the same as ours.  That goes both ways.

So while we can all be quick to judge Wendy and her many degrees, we have to consider her upbringing.  Wendy was taught that a way to measure an individual’s success is through their education and we can see that in the way she presents the information.  However, we hope the discussion of degrees can come to an end soon so we can focus on other things, such a Michael Darby being disgusting.

Wendy Osefo & The Real Housewives of Potomac will be back next Sunday at 9 PM.
