Below Deck Mediterranean is feeling very set up with Malia White using Valium as a way to get rid of Hannah Ferrier in order to bunk with her boyfriend.
This week’s episode of Below Deck Mediterranean angered fans across the world with their treatment of mental health issues. Malia White conveniently wanted to bring in her friend Christine “Bugsy” Drake, which happened. Hindrigo “Kiko” Lorran was conveniently fired and was conveniently replaced by her boyfriend, Tom. Now, Hannah Ferrier is conveniently fired after refusing to switch rooms with Malia, likely bringing in Aesha Scott to replace her.
At the start of the season, Malia and Captain Sandy Yawn were very adamant that they wanted respect. They deserved respect. For being women in the industry, they knew they had worked hard to get where they were. But all of that seems for nothing after the way things went down with Hannah this week.
Hannah had a panic attack and asked for valium, which she was prescribed by a doctor. Malia said nothing of it at the time, but when she asked Hannah to switch rooms with her so she could stay with Tom, things changed. “Man up and share a cabin!” Malia shouted at Hannah. Sure, can’t you do the same? At that time, Malia went to Captain Sandy to tell her that Hannah had drugs on board. Ta-da! Now Malia can have Tom as a roommate.
This behavior is nothing short of petty, sneaky, and really, just an overall bad look for someone supposedly mature enough to be in a position of power. And then Sandy’s actions in response to Malia’s actions…were incredibly disappointing. Malia even had the audacity to go into Hannah’s private things and take incriminating photos. What a huge invasion of privacy.
Sandy didn’t even take a moment to think about what she was saying before tearing Hannah apart. Not to mention her blind reinforcement of the room changes simple because Malia said it. Does Malia run Sandy’s brain for her?
Malia’s reasoning was nothing more than “it’s my boyfriend.” She deserves to get what she wants because she is dating someone. If that isn’t a terrible reason for getting your way, I’m not sure what is.
If nothing else, Hannah’s prescribed medication is beneficial to her and the crew. If it makes her feel calmer and in control and a doctor has prescribed it, it doesn’t make any sense why Malia thinks she knows better. One step forward for women, and ten steps back. Can someone call Captain Lee?
Below Deck Mediterranean is on Bravo Monday nights at 9 PM ET!
