Below Deck Mediterranean: Things really fell apart for the crew last night
By Amanda Cline
Below Deck Mediterranean isn’t benefitting from Sandy Yawn helicoptering around the crew and the guests probing them for negative responses.
Now that the Below Deck Mediterranean crew is a feel charters deep, things seem to be falling apart at a rapid pace. First up is the food. The vegan on the boat seems to be clearing a forest a day with his mushroom habit and Hindrigo “Kiko” Lorran can’t seem to figure it out. The vegetarian pasta wasn’t great, and the shrimp seemed overcooked.
Though Kiko was having an off day, Captain Sandy Yawn did her best not to help. Sandy has this innate ability to make things worse and somehow highlight the issues instead of fixing them. If someone hasn’t finished their meal, she pushes until she gets a negative response.
“You didn’t love it? I’m not okay with that.” Or, “No one has been out to check on you?” Sandy is being reactive to the issue, but she could just as easily be proactive and help solve the issue without highlighting the points that have been missed.
Hannah Ferrier seems completely over the entire process. She’s sleeping in and leaving guests at the table for an hour alone, while Christine “Bugsy” Drake and Jessica More are busy arguing over Bugsy’s accent. Jess just seems over the entire process and Bugsy seems to be getting there too. She can’t change her accent.
Kiko laid some square cheese on a wood board and was going to present it as a food option, a la Chef Mila Kolomeitseva. He attempted some sushi, but that makes no sense for someone trying to create meals for two groups of people that have been consistently hungry after the meal has been served.
Sushi is time-intensive and tends to be a lighter meal unless you make sushi for 50…which is again, time-intensive. Sandy also came into the galley mid-meal to remind Kiko not to mess up…which is usually the precursor to someone messing up.
If Sandy took a step back and observed more than she meddled, she might be surprised at the outcome. She’s highlighting issues and then asking the guests to lodge a complaint.
For someone with such an extensive history in her field, it also seems like she might have worked as a manager at Applebees that got slammed for happy hour on a regular basis. Where is the elevated, five-star, mega-yacht, management style?
Below Deck Mediterranean is on Bravo Monday nights at 9 PM ET!
