Southern Charm: Thomas Ravenel is sentenced in his assault case

The former Southern Charm star was back in court today and pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and battery.

In incredibly disappointing news, the former Southern Charm star pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and battery today and received a 30-day suspended sentence and a $500 fine.  If that isn’t the “good old boys” system at work, I really don’t know what is.  A suspended sentence means he needs to comply with the other stipulations (such as probation, or a fine) placed on him to avoid jail time.

Thomas Ravenel was accused of assaulting his nanny at the time, Dawn Ledwell, back in January of 2015.  Nanny Dawn, as she was referred to, filed a police report against Ravenel in 2018 after hearing he had allegedly assaulted others.  Ravenel was arrested shortly after and let go from the hit show soon after that.

According to a local news outlet, Ravenel allegedly told the courts: “On the night of the incident I did attempt to kiss her and in so doing I grabbed her arm and that was wrong, and I am much appreciative of the opportunity to apologize to her in court today.”  Nanny Dawn was not in court today, but she wrote a letter that was read aloud.

In Charleston, where all of this has conspired, a banner was recently hung from a house warning people to “keep this guy out your house while minors are sleeping.”  Yikes on bikes.

Ravenel’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his children, Kathryn Dennis, is still on the show and doing well.  She was recently awarded joint custody of the children under temporary order while Thomas, unfortunately, remains their legal guardian.  Kathryn has been battling Ravenel in court over custody of the children for a while now and recently lost her mother due to an illness.  The two are due back in court later this year.

Ravenel has tried to remain out of the public eye recently, given all the bad publicity.  He’s sure to show up again soon slandering or throwing to-go containers at a girlfriend somewhere in the old town.  Hopefully one day the punishment will fit the crime.

Southern Charm is not currently airing on Bravo, but will be back next season.
