On last night’s RHOP, Ashley Darby struggled with the reaction she received from her estranged father.  But was her surprise visit a good idea?

It is no secret that Ashley Darby from RHOP has had a rough season, both on and off the television.  Ashley’s husband, Michael Darby, was accused of assaulting a cameraman while filming the show.

They’ve spent the start of the season trying to convince cast members and viewers alike that Michael is innocent. They closed their restaurant, Oz, and launched a clothing line, in addition to welcoming their first child together.

This sort of became Ashley’s storyline, but it seems as if she tried to steer away from the legal drama and into her more personal drama.  A few episodes ago, she discussed with her mom that she wanted to find her biological father.  Ashley said it was in order to have a more complete medical history for when she has a child of her own.

At that point, Ashley let on that she had reached out to him on facebook, and he blocked her in response.  I’m not sure why Ashley would want to bombard the guy in his home with a camera crew when he didn’t even reply to a private message, but she did it anyway.

Ashley claims this was in response to wanted to have a child of her own and knowing more about his health. Georgia law did not allow the camera crews to film on a private residence, but you can hear the door shut and lock in the distance. Ashley begs her father to come out and speak with her, but he does not come back out.

But why?

Obviously, that was not the ideal outcome.  Not only is it incredibly soul-crushing that this man won’t even acknowledge his own daughter after 30 years, but it’s also sad that this is now her storyline.  There was so much focus on her husband and his butt-touching drama, that it seems like Ashley was desperate to take the heat off of him in any way possible.

It appears that surprising her father on camera was not the right way to go about things, but either way, it was incredibly hard to watch.  Not to mention, completely unfair to Ashley. I can’t imagine having the courage to approach someone after 30 years and being totally rejected.

Ashley was on Watch What Happens Live after the show, and said she has not contacted her father since filming.

The Real Housewives of Potomac is on Sundays at 8 PM ET on Bravo.
