Bravo and RHOC alums Terry and Heather Dubrow create the Dubrow diet to boost weight loss by using keto and fasting while adding cheat meals.

Meet the Dubrow diet, which combines two popular diet trends, the keto weight loss plan and intermittent fasting.

Created by Bravo stars Terry and Heather Dubrow (you may remember them from Real Housewives of Orange County), the new plan also offers cheat meals (yum!). It’s not surprising that the diet has become increasingly popular since the Dubrows unveiled it. We’ve got the skinny below.

Why the Dubrow diet is so popular

The Real Housewives Of Orange County (RHOC) alums’ diet combine the best of keto and fasting while adding the temptation of cheat meals.

The ketogenic (keto) diet involves boosting fat intake, such as avocado; eating moderate amounts of protein, such as chicken, and slashing carbohydrates, such as cereal and cookies. Fans claim that it cuts their cravings while boosting their weight loss.

In contrast, the intermittent fasting plan that’s become so popular in recent years allows dieters to eat what they want in a scheduled window, then fast for the rest of the day. It also is known for supposedly reducing hunger while improving the ability to lose weight.

But for those of us who feel that cheating on these types of rigid diets is, well, inevitable, the Dubrow diet comes to the rescue. It combines keto, fasting, and (hurray) cheat meals, according to Body and Soul.

How the Dubrow diet boosts weight loss

For those seeking weight loss, the plan keeps it simple. There are three phases, with each involving a different amount of fasting:

  • “Red Carpet Ready”: In phase one, fasting 16 hours daily takes place two to five days each week. There’s no alcohol allowed, and foods on the diet include lean protein, healthy fats, nuts, seeds, dairy, non-starchy vegetables, fruit, and a small amount of complex carbs.
  • “Summer Is Coming”: Phase two has different periods of fasting, depending on how much weight you want to lose. To shed half a pound to 1.5 pounds weekly, you do the “slow” option of fasting 12 hours daily. There’s a “medium” option of fasting 14 hours per day for 1 to 2.5 pounds per week, and a “quick” choice of fasting 16 hours daily to lose up to 4 pounds each week. Cheat meals are included.
  • “Look Hot While Living Like a Human”: This phase focuses on maintaining your weight loss with a 12-hour fast five days each week and two days of fasting 16 days. The food plan is the same, and you get a cheat meal if you want.

How much variety do you get on the Dubrow diet?

For those who associate the word “diet” with boredom, the Dubrow diet features plenty of variety.

Green vegetables permitted on the plan range from spinach to green beans, for example, while lean protein ranges from chicken to fish.

Then there are the healthy fats, such as nuts, avocado, and coconut yogurt. You can also drink coffee and tea.
