Here's why Brooke Hogan waited over a year to announce her marriage

Brooke Hogan, daughter of famous wrestler Hulk Hogan, is married!

But, unlike other celebrities, she didn't announce that she had tied the knot immediately after the ceremony on her social media or with a wedding photoshoot in a magazine. Instead, she waited over a year to share the news before she spoke to TMZ about the secret nuptials.

Who is Brooke Hogan's husband?

Brooke Hogan married an athlete -- but not a wrestler like her famous father. She married hockey player Steven Oleksy at a secret wedding ceremony 18 months ago. According to TMZ, it was just the two of them at the wedding and they even waited until only recently to have family get together to celebrate with a small reception.

On January 1, Brooke Hogan welcomed the new year by sharing a rare picture of herself with her husband to her Instagram. In the caption she wrote, "So here he is, people: The kindest, sweetest badass you'll ever meet. I'm really lucky. God did me a solid on this one."

Brooke Hogan said her past experiences have made her value privacy

While speaking to TMZ, Brooke Hogan said she chose not to announce their marriage right away because of how much trouble and heartbreak she's been through in her life. She says it was important to her to make sure that Steven Oleksy was really "the one" before she went public with their marriage.

This isn't the first time she's chosen privacy and her own happiness over the public eye, either. In 2023, she chose to skip her dad Hulk Hogan's wedding and made a statement on her Instagram about why she was absent by saying, "For my own journey to healing and happiness, I have chosen to create some distance between myself and my family, and am focusing on people and things that heal my heart and align with my own personal beliefs, goals and values."

As far as their wedding goes, according to the star, it's easy to keep her wedding private because the two of them are living in Florida where her husband is playing hockey for the Orlando Solar Bears. The fact that the pair of them don't live in Los Angeles means that they're not constantly being hounded by the paparazzi.

In her interview with TMZ, Brooke Hogan added that she's not special for being able to keep her wedding a total secret for so long. She says that if other celebrities wanted to keep pieces of their private lives completely secret like she and Steven Oleksy did, they would be able to.
