Rihanna says her Super Bowl pregnancy announcement wasn't planned

Superstar singer Rihanna turned heads during her performance at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show when she donned a red jumpsuit that showed off her baby bump. The singer has two children with rapper ASAP Rocky and the announcement for their first child was just as much of a surprise as her Super Bowl bombshell. The pair were spotted out and about in NYC with Rihanna dressed to emphasize her bump.
But, as Rihanna has revealed now, her Super Bowl pregnancy announcement actually wasn't planned.
Rihanna's pregnancy announcement was actually a wardrobe malfunction
The "Umbrella" singer told Access Hollywood that the iconic moment was a complete accident. According to Rihanna, she hadn't told anyone she was pregnant prior to the big day, just asking her stylist to make sure that her outfit was good and stretchy. Unfortunately for her, when she arrived to get dressed, they couldn't get the jumpsuit to zip up over her bump.
"So the undergarment was stretchy and this was baggy, but you know, the zip. It just stopped right there! So it had to be what it had to be," Rihanna told Access Hollywood at the launch party for her Fenty x Puma Creeper Phatty shoe collaboration.
Even though it was an accidental wardrobe issue, Rihanna made the moment look like it was planned and on purpose with the way that she played up the jumpsuit only zipping to her baby bump and the way she rubbed her stomach during her performance. Until the singer admitted that the entire thing was an accident that she just made the most of, she had her fans thinking that it was a creative pregnancy announcement.
In total, Rihanna and ASAP Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, have two children together: RZA Athelaston Mayers and Riot Rose Mayers, both sons. Their relationship was publicly confirmed in 2021 when ASAP Rocky spoke to GQ and said, "I think when you know, you know. She's the one," about her.
