Kristin Cavallari says she has no contact with her 'narcissist' father
By Lacey Womack
Kristin Cavallari revealed on the Let's Be Honest podcast that she made a tough decision about two years ago when she cut contact with her father who she goes on to call a "narcissist." According to The Hills alum, it was "the best thing [she's] ever done."
Cavallari co-parents three children -- Camden, 11, Jaxon, 9, and Saylor, 8-- with her former NFL player ex-husband Jay Cuter.
According to the reality star, it was an incident between her father and her three children that lead to her decision to cut off contact with her father. On the podcast, Kristin said, "How I got my dad out of my life was something happened with my kids and it crossed the line. And I was like, 'You know what? I'm [expletive] done.'"
In the podcast, she reveals that her relationship with her father has always been somewhat strained. She says that her father's attitude toward her has always made her feel like she wasn't good enough for him, but that this feeling of disappointment would be exacerbated when her father would surprise her by heavily praising her and holding her up to a high standard.
According to Cavallari, growing up has helped her to see her father in a new light and she's come to understand that when he was speaking positively about her, she believes it was because she was being seen as an extension of himself. "Now, as an adult looking back, 'Oh, it was when it benefitted you and made you look good.'"
Unfortunately, the pair's issues ran deep and Cavallari revealed on her reality TV series, Very Cavallari, that she and her father had a deep rift in their relationship after the death of her brother, Michael. According to an episdoe of her show, Kristin Cavallari said her and her father had "grown apart a little bit" after the death of her brother.
Kristin didn't specify what happened between her father and her children, but it was clearly something serious enough to lead her to re-think their relationship and cut their relationship off entirely.
