Kandi Burruss has announced that she won't be returning for season 16 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. This news comes just after Kenya Moore announced that "the door is closed" on NeNe Leakes potentially returning to the series, leaving fans wondering what other major cast shakeups could be in store for the Bravo series.
At the Grammys red carpet on February 4, Kandi Burruss spoke to Variety's Marc Malkin about her decision not to return for season 16 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and talked about what's next for her career now that she's departing the reality series.
"I decided I’m not coming back this year. It’s been 14 seasons, and they allowed us to sit around for a little too long, but during that time I had started working on a lot of other things, and I got some nice big projects coming soon, so I’m super excited about those things," she told editor Marc Malkin when asked about the upcoming season of RHOA.
Along with announcing that she's taking her leave from the show, Kandi Burruss got candid about why she's choosing not to come back for season 16.
"But it's not just that. It's just like, after you really have time to think, and a friend of mine was like, 'Why do you keep doing it?' And I was like, 'Well, I think because I've just been doing it for so long, it feels weird to think not to do it?' So I was just like, 'You know what? I’m going to take a break, I'm going to take a moment... I'm not coming back this year.'"
Prior to appearing on Bravo, Burruss was a founding member of R&B group Xscape and she has worked on writing some major hit songs, including "No Scrubs" by TLC, "Bills, Bills, Bills" by Destiny's Child, and "It Makes Me Ill" by 'N Sync.
Bravo previously announced that RHOA won't be entirely rebooted for season 16, but that there will be some major changes to the cast. A full cast hasn't been announced, but it has been revealed that there will be some former stars back for the new season, though it's obviously that Kandi Burruss will not be among them.
