The Crown is a TV sensation that premiered on Netflix in 2016 and is currently airing its sixth and final season, a season that begins in 1997 and contains events like the death of Diana, Princess of Wales and the early days of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship. This has fans wondering: is Kate Middleton watching how her younger self is being portrayed on Netflix? Omid Scobie, author of Endgame, has some thoughts on whether or not she’s tuning in.

Kate Middleton likely avoids media coverage of herself — including The Crown

Although there are a lot of celebrities and public figures that seem to be very tuned in to the news about them, Endgame author Omid Scobie tells ELLE.com that Kate Middleton is likely not among them. The journalist had this to say to the website:

"But I do believe that with Kate, definitely, she truly isn’t looking. I mean, when people say she doesn’t look, I’m told that she doesn’t even read the news. She just stays out of the loop. That’s clearly the way it works for her. And given that she’s in such a unique and difficult way of life, I don’t blame her for taking that approach to it. So, I can’t imagine her being particularly bothered about what’s in The Crown."

But, according to the journalist behind the book about the royal family that’s making headlines around the world, it’s likely that Kate Middleton’s husband is a different story when it comes to keeping up with The Crown.

Is Kate Middleton the only family member avoiding The Crown?

When it comes to Prince William, Scobie says that it’s likely a different story entirely. The journalist and author admits that it doesn’t seem like any members of the family are actively watching Netflix, but he does say that they’re likely keeping up with the series — and in particular, this latest season — through the media.

Prince William is particularly likely to be keeping up with how his family is being portrayed on this season considering it includes the death of his mother in 1997. “I would imagine that there was always going to be some care or even concern about how she might be portrayed in a TV show,” Scobie says to ELLE.com about why this season in particular might be one that they’re keeping closer tabs on.

But, he says that like the family kept up with Harry’s book, Spare, and Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, it’s likely just through reports in the media.
