Three years after the tragic passing of former Gleestar Naya Rivera, members of the cast have come back together to honor her memory with the release of a previously unreleased song that features her voice.
A new chance to hear Naya Rivera’s voice again
Originally recorded in 2012, a previously unreleased song called “Prayer for the Broken” has been released in coordination with the annual Snixxmas charity, an event held by Naya Rivera’s former Glee cast members that honors a charity that was close to the actress, Alexandria House. Alexandria House was founded in 1996 and a transitional residence that houses women that have left dangerous situations and are transitioning out of emergency shelter into an independent living space of their own in Los Angeles.
Since the passing of Naya Rivera in 2020, her former Glee castmates Kevin Hale and Jenna Ushkowitz have been reuniting in order to organize Snixxmas and raise money for Alexandria House in Naya’s honor. According to the Snixxmas website, the past three years have seen a total of nearly $250,000 raised for the charity in Naya’s honor.
The late actress, who played the role of cheerleader Santana Lopez on the musical TV series Glee, was found deceased after going boating with her then 4-year-old son, Josey, who was found alive and asleep on the boat when authorities found it during the search for the pair. In her memoir, she referred to her son as her “greatest success” and had shared a touching photo of the two of them to her Instagram account only a day prior.
The newly released “Prayer For the Broken” features Naya Rivera’s original vocals from the 2012 recording as well as newly recorded background support vocals from other members of the Glee cast. The song was made available on all streaming platforms and all proceeds from purchases and streams for the song will be donated to Alexandria House in Naya Rivera’s memory.
