After two years, Olivia Rodrigo ended rumors about this feud
By Lacey Womack
Olivia Rodrigo’s breakthrough single “Driver’s License” was released in 2021 and, similar to Rodrigo’s inspiration Taylor Swift, the heartbreaking lyrics had fans speculating about who she might have been talking about in one specific lyric. In the song, she sings that her ex is “probably with that blonde girl” and it wasn’t long before fans narrowed it down to being about Sabrina Carpenter, a blonde actress and singer that Rodrigo’s ex was spotted with after they broke up.
Although neither Olivia Rodrigo or Sabrina Carpenter directly responded to the speculation, fans thought that Sabrina’s song “Skin” was a direct response to “Driver’s License,” with lyrics like, “Maybe then we could pretend / There’s no gravity in the words we write / Maybe you didn’t mean it / Maybe ‘blonde’ was the only rhyme.”
In the two years since those songs were released, it’s been all fan speculation and no actual statements from the two of them. Although there were other songs that fans believed the pair of former Disney Channel stars might have been writing about each other, they stayed silent about their potential feud. Now, two years later, it looks like they’ve gotten over their past differences.
All smiles for Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter
On December 2, the pair were both attending the 2023 Variety Hitmakers Brunch and they put a stop to the rumors and speculation about how they feel about each other once and for all when they posed for a photo together.
Naturally, fans have been all abuzz on social media since seeing the two of them taking a photo together and squashing the rumors that there’s still beef between them. One fan of both the pop stars’ music is even hopeful that the two of them will get together in the studio to produce a song that mashes up all of the songs they’ve been speculated to have written about each other.
In the years since “Driver’s License” and “Skin” were released, both of the former Disney Channel stars have been busy. Olivia Rodrigo released her second album Guts, and Sabrina Carpenter has been opening on Taylor Swift’s tour.
