Kristin Cavallari on her relationship with ex Jay Cutler
By Lacey Womack
The Hillsby Giuliana Rancic alum Kristin Cavallari first met her football star ex-husband Jay Cutler in 2010 after being introduced and got married in 2013 after they welcomed their first son, Camden, into the world. But, things weren’t love at first sight, it seems, because she didn’t want to be a stay-at-home mom and the two of them temporarily called things off in 2011 before getting back together.
It seemed like it was finally time for their happily ever after once they tied the knot but unfortunately, it just wasn’t the case.
In 2020, the pair announced that they were getting a divorce — three years after Jay Cutler retired from the NFL, after the two had welcomed two additional children into their family, and the same year that her TV series Very Cavallari ended its final season.
Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler’s messy divorce
When the pair announced their divorce in 2020, all seemed civil, but Cutler was accused of “misconduct” and she cited being the main caretaker as the reason she wanted full custody of the kids. According to reports, the two had a messy back-and-forth as the year went on as they agreed on a split custody agreement, made new living arrangements, and continued on with their divorce.
In the end, it took until 2022 until their divorce was finalized because of the issues and drama surrounding their breakup. Just like their divorce didn’t happen overnight, Kristin claims that the two of them tried to repair their relationship for a long time before choosing to end things.
Very Cavallari co-parenting
On an episode of her podcast, Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari, she took a variety of listener questions, including one curious mind who wanted to know where her relationship with her ex stands now, a year after their divorce was finalized.
According to the reality TV star, the two of them have finally found their co-parenting groove, something that she cites as being extremely important to her because of the fact that it’s what’s healthiest for their three children. She said:
"My kids see it, I mean, it’s just easier. And listen, I get it. When people’s hearts are breaking, it’s really difficult. It’s really, really difficult, and so, you know, seeing Jay happy is the best. That’s what I care about because I obviously see the benefits, my kids see the benefits, and yeah, life is really good right now, and I’m so thankful for it."
This may come as a surprise to anyone who saw how messy their divorce was and Kristin agrees that it’s hard to believe, but that the two of them have finally reached a healthy and civil post-divorce partnership. “And when I tell you guys if we can get there, anyone can get there, I mean it. People used to say that to me, and I’d be like, ‘Yeah right. There’s no way.’ I mean it,” she said on her podcast.
And about those rumors that she’s moved on to John Mayer? She gave that listener a very cheeky, “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
