‘Haters fuel me’: Kylie Jenner talks family, inspiration, and plastic surgery
By Lacey Womack
Kylie Jenner met up with Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence for an Interview Magazine article in which the two of them got totally candid about Kylie’s family life, what inspires her, and how the two of them feel about plastic surgery rumors. The reality star, 26, made her first official appearance on her family’s reality TV series, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, in 2007 and has been in the spotlight ever since, with clothing deals, a makeup brand, her own reality show, and more, all coming together to make her the world’s youngest self-made billionaire.
Even though so much of her life has been documented through TV, the tabloids, and her own social media accounts over the years, it’s no surprise that her fans are always eager for more. When she sat down with Jennifer Lawrence for an interview to appear in Interview Magazine, she gave her fans exactly what they were craving by talking about everything from her morning routine, how much time she spends scrolling the internet, and what she really thinks about those plastic surgery rumors.
Taking after her sisters
When asked what inspires her, Kylie Jenner admitted to one unusual source that interviewer pal Jennifer Lawrence called “so Kim [Kardashian].” Along with being inspired by her family and specifically her mom, Kris Jenner, Kylie said that she’s online a lot looking for things to get inspired by and said, “Also the haters fuel me.”
Lawrence wasn’t wrong to say that finding inspiration in the negativity online is similar to big sister Kim Kardashian. Kim, who was once in the headlines for sending PR packages from her brand to her most famous critics, has previously revealed that just like her youngest sister, negative opinions inspire her. “Maybe that’s part of my drive, always feeling like people have underestimated me,” Kim revealed.
Kylie Jenner opens up about her plastic surgery rumors
Kylie Jenner admitted in 2015 that she had gotten lip fillers, the same year that she announced that she would be starting her own makeup line to sell her now infamous Kylie Lip Kit. The combo lip liner and matte lipstick are what Kylie said was the key to her fuller lip look and when talking to Jennifer Lawrence about plastic surgery rumors, Kylie holds onto the idea that she initially was using lipstick before she got filler to permanently enhance her lip look.
When asked about if her overlined lips came from a makeup artist or were all her idea, Kylie said:
"I think it started because I just wanted big, fat, juicy lips, and I just wanted that illusion that I had fuller lips. But no one taught me. When I started doing that, I wasn’t really working with makeup artists and stuff"
One of the things that Jenner and Lawrence can relate on during their interview together is the fact that they both became famous at a young age, something that can be detrimental when internet users are trying to compare photos to spot any potential plastic surgery procedures.
“I started at 19, so I get the before and after pictures from when I’m 19 to 30 and I’m like, ‘I grew up. I lost baby weight in my face, and my face changed because I’m aging,'” Lawrence said to Kylie, who was 10 when Keeping Up With the Kardashians started versus her 26 now, who opened up about having the same experience with online “then vs. now” comparison photos of herself:
"I did end up getting lip fillers, but it’s also the same with me. I’ll see before and after photos when I’m 12 years old versus 26 and my eyebrows are filled differently. I have contour on. I’m like, “How can you compare my 12-year-old face and say I’ve gotten my jaw shaved and eyelids removed?”"
There’s no denying that it can’t be easy to grow up in the spotlight, but it’s obvious that Kylie Jenner has made the most of it. From ordering 5,000 units of each color of her lip kit for their initial launch to selling out her makeup, skincare, and swimwear brands at each launch, the young mogul has come quite a way and fans are excited to see where she goes next.
