Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are divorcing after 27 years
For nearly 27 years, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness were what many of us would consider to be celebrity couple goals. Not only was it clear that they loved each other, but they were also quick to ignore a lot of the hatred sent their way over the 13-year age gap between them.
And yet sadly, it seems as if this couple is goals no more. According to CNN, Jackman and Furness have issued a statement, that was first shared by People Magazine and confirmed by the news outlet, in which they have decided to go their separate ways.
In their statement, they make it clear that this is an amicable parting and that they feel as if their individual journeys are taking them down different paths in life. And while we can absolutely respect that, it is still sad to hear.
Why are Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness separating?
Of course, they are also asking for privacy and respect at this time as they are going through something very challenging. In the joint statement that was issued on September 15, the couple explained,
"We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness."
The couple has also made it clear that this is all they plan to say about their separation.
Considering the couple has been seen looking happy during a number of engagements in 2023, including an appearance at Wimbledon at the end of June, this news is definitely a shock. The fact that Hugh Jackman shared such a loving anniversary post in April makes this news even more surprising for anyone who has followed their journey over the years.
We hope they are both happy as they move forward, but of course, it is always sad to see this news, especially from a couple that has always looked to be so solid together.
