Adam Levine and Adam Devine are two very different celebrities. Both are actors, sure, but Levine is primarily a pop-star known for his hit songs with Maroon 5. Devine is a comedic actor who is best known for a silly show called Workaholics.

Oh, and there’s one more difference — one just publicly cheated on his wife and another lives a pretty quiet personal life and hasn’t done anything worth publicly shaming.

Unfortunately, for some, one letter and a different pronunciation is not enough to distinguish the two names.

Adam Devine has been receiving hateful messages from people mistaking him for Adam Levine

For context here, Adam Levine, one of the world’s biggest pop stars, was involved in a cheating scandal that began last September. If you didn’t hear about it, you have been living under a rock — go look it up.

Anyway, here’s where Adam Devine comes into the picture.

When Levine cheated on his wife, Adam Devine began to receive direct messages from angry fans who thought he was Adam Levine. On a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Devine stated that he has received hundreds of DMs from these aforementioned fans.

The names are not pronounced the same. The spelling is different. Still, news outlets have made mistakes that have led angry fans into Devine’s DMs. He notes a Baltimore news outlet that headlined “Adam Devine cheats on wife.” For a while, Devine left it alone.

“I’m not big into like inserting myself into someone else’s drama. I’m like ‘this guy’s already going through it.’ I was steering clear.”

But enough was enough — eventually, Devine posted on Instagram to clarify that he and his wife are happily married and that the controversy had absolutely nothing to do with him.

Devine mentioned how this has happened with the two names in the past, but it has never been something that caused misdirected hate toward him. Devine even went on to describe the single time that he met Levine in which he discussed the frequent confusion. When Devine asked Levine if that had ever happened, Levine answered with a rude “literally never.”

In short, Adam Devine remains cool and Adam Levine somehow looks even more unpleasant than he did before.
