After three weeks of excitement and surprises (hello, Morocco), the FIFA World Cup 2022 is soon coming to an end. And what better than an A-list duel to close this memorable chapter of sports history?

France, the defending champion, will face connoisseur Argentina on Sunday evening at the Lusail stadium in Doha (Qatar). While the highly anticipated clash between these two leading teams is already making mouths water, there’s another faceoff happening within this game: Kylian Mbappé Vs. Lionel Messi.

Ironically, both opponents are usually teammates at the Paris St Germain club. Still, the stakes are sky-high. The public is awaiting an outstanding performance of the two strikers during their confrontation. Besides, this game’s outcome will determine which player finishes as the competition’s top scorer and likely best player.

A great challenge

If Mbappe and Messi are dying to get their hands on the golden trophy, this race to the top holds different significance for each.

Of course, the two tens are at different points in their careers. 35-year-old Leo Messi has enjoyed an illustrious career, winning every worthwhile accolade in his sports. Many would gladly give him the GOAT status.

Nevertheless, Messi’s remarkable journey still misses one significant achievement: a World Cup. Even though “La Pulga” once reached a final in 2014, the German team crushed the virtuoso’s dreams then.

But now, Messi’s getting a new opportunity to reach for the ultimate honor. Getting this trophy would place him in the same pantheon as the late Diego Maradona.

Kylian Mbappé, on the other hand, is still building his legend. Having won the World Cup at his first participation, the striker is trying to cement his place as one of the leaders of the crop.

Moreover, a win for either player would impact their value for club owners and expand their prospects.

In the meantime, this showdown is great business for FIFA and Qatar regardless of the winner. The cup organizers couldn’t have dreamed of a more appealing conclusion for their event. Millions of fans are sure to tune in this weekend.
