By Natalie Rose
Singer and TikTok star Nessa Barrett is finally speaking her truth to the internet on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy, hosted by Alex Cooper. Nessa’s debut album ‘Young Forever’ debuted last Friday and consisted of thirteen deeply personal songs, giving fans an insight into the young artist’s mindset.
Addressing mental health
Barrett discloses that she was diagnosed with anxiety when she was six years old. She also mentions that her final concussion from soccer lead to physical brain trauma symptoms and struggles with ADHD. In order to work on this, she had to receiver ocular therapy. It is revealed that these troubles contributed to Nessa’s first suicide attempt.
Barrett dives deeper, revealing her struggles with borderline personality disorder. She explains that people who suffer from BPD can experience attaching themselves to a “favorite person”, which she compares to her relationship to Jaden Hossler. Nessa spoke about how her BDP is “so painful mentally that it starts to physically hurt.”
The Call Her Daddy interview also touches on the recent loss of Nessa’s best friend, Cooper Noriega. Nessa expresses how close the two were and how she “felt like my whole life had been flipped upside-down” when he passed away. She refers to him as her brother and mentions that they were spending everyday together. Nessa also vocalized how difficult the grieving process has been for her, sharing that she was admitted to a treatment center to get the help she needed.
Past romantic relationships
When talking about her past relationship with Josh Richards, Nessa expressed that it was “too serious for how young we were” and that “a lot of the good parts of our relationship was simply for views and content.” Their breakup involved both of them being extremely busy with working on their careers, as well as Nessa dealing with mental health struggles.
Nessa also addressed the drama surrounding her relationship with Jaden Hossler, explaining that they had always been good friends and were already struggling with their own separate relationships. Once the internet got involved with the drama, Nessa expressed that it pushed her and Jaden’s relationship into “something it probably wasn’t going to be.”
Nessa was very respectful when it came to speaking about their breakup, tackling the rumors that Jaden had cheated on her. She told listeners that to her knowledge there was no physical cheating and that she “knows how it feels to want attention from other people when you’re not getting it from the person that you’re with.” Barrett disclosed that “I did make a poor decision, but I don’t regret anything” when it comes to her past relationship.
