In June 2022, Bravo Network launched the eleventh series of the popular Real Housewives franchise. The Real Housewives of Dubai premiered with fanfare, featuring a racially-diverse cast of six women making waves in the city of gold.

However, past the initial excitement, things might be looking grim for the new series as Bravo has yet to announce a second season.

Besides being the latest show, The Real Housewives of Dubai marks the first time Bravo ever produced a Housewives spinoff outside of the United States.  While you’ve probably heard of international series such as Real Housewives of Vancouver (Canada), Auckland (New Zealand), or else; these shows are part of a ‘licensing’ deal. Hence, they are not actually produced by Bravo.

The Real Housewives of Dubai was overly hyped

For RHODubai kickoff, the network’s promotion machine went into overdrive. From interviews to TV appearances, Andy Cohen made sure Bravo fans tune in to watch his new project.

The Real Housewives of Dubai cast includes Kenyan-born model and early fan-favorite Chanel Ayan, English reality TV star Caroline Stanbury, American entrepreneur Caroline Brooks, Jamaican fashion designer Lesa Milan, Lebanese-American Nina Ali, and the only Emirati in the group, mogul Sara Al-Madani.

The series’ first season introduced the public to this fierce lineup, their families, and the tribulations of their busy lives in the middle eastern city. Viewers witnessed catchy taglines, opulent decors, over-the-top outfits, and typical housewives’ arguments. There was even a guest appearance (hi Phaedra Parks!) and a wedding.

Yet, none of these classic reality TV tricks seem to have grabbed the public’s attention long enough. The Real Housewives of Dubai began with solid ratings on June 1st but could not make the audience stay.

The show’s ratings have gradually dwindled throughout the season. It’s premiere attracted 769,000 viewers. However, by the tenth episode, only 47,8000 tuned in, according to TVdeets. Not a promising start for a new show.

In addition, it doesn’t help that some reviews have branded the Dubai spinoff as boring. Many accuse the cast of having studied the previous franchises too much before their camera turns.

Housewive Gizelle Bryant even chimed in the debate on her podcast “Reasonably Shady”. The Potomac star drew the ire of her new colleagues when she picked Chanel Ayan as the series’ breakout star and likened the rest of the ensemble to ‘watching paint dry’. As you can imagine, this comparison didn’t go down well in the desert.

Furthermore, Bravo has lagged in announcing the next season of Real Housewives of Dubai. Nevertheless, the spinoff still has fans who want to see their new addiction return. Many think a few changes in the cast might boost the dynamics and add some excitement. Others are suggesting the possibility that it might just become a sleeper hit.

One person whose lips are sealed is producer Andy Cohen. His network is determined to make us guess till the last minute.
