5 Celebrities who left showbiz for entrepreneurship: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen have spent their entire lives working together. But while they started as performers, they now collaborate as fashion designers.

The twins began their careers as Michelle Tanner on Full House, then moved on to movies, TV series, and other business ventures until they stopped acting in the early oughts.

When they launched their label, The Row, in 2006, the Olsen sisters were some of the wealthiest women in the entertainment industry. Still, the twins entirely remodeled their image and career. Gone were the hyper-branded starlets; it was time for fashion entrepreneurship.

Thus, the twins purposely created a mysterious and alluring about their brand, The Row. Consequently, they didn’t give their first interview until two years after the brand’s launch.

In the meantime, the label gradually earned the industry and the public’s approval. The Row became a mainstay of New York Fashion Week. In 2012, The Row’s status was further cemented by winning the Womenswear Designer of the Year title at the CFDA awards.

The former child stars continued their fashion path by launching the diffusion line Elizabeth & James, named after their siblings.

While their sister Elizabeth Olsen is still making a splash in Hollywood with starring roles, the Olsen twins have definitely closed the acting chapter.
