When it comes to television opening title sequences, there are few as iconic as the opening sequence from Friends which remains one of the all-time greats to this day.

Set to “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts, the Friends opening title sequence was shot on the Universal Studios Burbank backlot in a space designed to look like Central Park complete with a now-iconic fountain designed to look like Central Park’s Cherry Hill Fountain. In the opening sequence, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer bust a move while dancing in, on, and around the fountain.

Although the opening sequence would evolve in time, snippets from the fountain scene remained part of the opening until the very end and is beloved by all of Friends fans. However, there is one person who apparently is not the biggest fan of the fountain scene: Courteney Cox.

Why doesn’t Courteney Cox like the Friends fountain scene?

Friends alum Courteney Cox dropped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss the new season of her Facebook Watch series 9 Months and, naturally, the conversation also included talk about the Friends reunion special.

After reminiscing with DeGeneres about the great time she had reuniting with all five of her Friends costars on the Stage 24 Lot for the first time in nearly two decades, the conversation shifted to the iconic Friends fountain scene which Cox confessed she did not enjoy filming at all!

“We were in that fountain for a long time. Somebody thought that would just be really fun, and let me tell you what happens, it’s not fun to be dancing in a fountain for hours and hours,” Cox revealed when asked about a photo taken with her castmates in the fountain adding that the idea was “definitely not mine.”

It seems Cox wasn’t the only one not in love with filming in the fountain for several hours either, as she pointed out Matthew Perry too was not keen on the time spent in the fountain.

"“I remember Matthew Perry saying at one point, and we didn’t know each other that well at that point, but I remember, and this is so Matthew, but he was like, ‘I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t in this fountain.'”"

While the scene might remain one of the most beloved and recreated scenes from the film among fans, we can understand why it wasn’t quite as fun on the actors. After all, who can blame Cox or her costars for not enjoying splashing around in a fountain in soaking wet clothing for hours on end?
