Rihanna is raising eyebrows over her latest dinner outing look. The 33-year-old singer and Fenty founder grabbed dinner in NYC last night while wearing a slinky and pearl-adorned outfit, one big-time channeling the lingerie-as-eveningwear trend. Paparazzi photos of the “Work” hit-maker are now all over Instagram, where media outlet Just Jared has dedicated a post to the Savage X Fenty designer’s ensemble.
Suffice to say that fans are questioning whether Rihanna should have picked something a little more conservative. RiRi is now getting trashed over what many might argue was actually a pretty covered-up finish.
Rihanna Reps Lingerie Trend
See the photo below. While The Daily Mail dubbed the outfit a “flirty black frock,” fans are calling it a “nightie.” RiRi was photographed hitting up an Italian joint in the Big Apple and flaunting her famous figure in a sleeveless and sideless black silk dress, one affording negligée vibes as silky fabrics chopped up sheer lace flashing a black bra.
The makeup mogul, going for a thigh-grazing finish, showcased her famous ankle tattoos as she rocked pointed-toe kitten heels, also going for a flapper finish via long pearl necklaces, bracelets, and the return of her iconic pixie crop.
A caption from Just Jared read: “Rihanna stepped out in a lace dress and pearls while getting dinner on Monday night in New York City.”
While some fans gushed over the return of RiRi’s boyish pixie, others raised issue with her fashion sense. “Bad dress like lingerie,” one wrote, with another saying:
"“Dress? For bed maybe? That’s called lingerie!”"
“Are we sure this dress was ready to be worn out?” another asked, continuing: “Looks like it was still in the sewing phase.” One user, seemingly also on-board with the trending opinion, wrote: “It’s like a cross between a nightie and maid outfit.”

Says Lingerie Brand Not About Being ‘Sexy’
Rihanna, who launched her best-selling Savage X Fenty brand in 2018 and has since launched Fenty fashion and both her makeup and skincare lines, has opened up on what she feels her brand represents. The lingerie designer told Elle:
“Savage is not about looking sexy, it’s not about the product—it’s all about you. It’s all about how you feel. You cannot fake sexy, what you need to do is find it. Clear all that negative sh-t out, get to your sexy, and own it—that sh-t is yours.”
Just last month, Rihanna went viral as TikTok didn’t know what to make of her brand’s new “butt cleavage” leggings. The Soft Mesh Open-Back Crotchless Legging, retailing for $49.95, had users jokingly asking: “Can someone at Fabletics tell me what this is?” Then again, others demanded that “butt cleavage” be “normalized.”
