We’ve reached the end of Real Housewives of Dallas Season 5 with the second part of the RHOD Season 5 reunion airing tonight. And so far, the show’s future is looking murky at best.

While Real Housewives of Orange County remains on indefinite hiatus after several lackluster seasons, fans are wondering if RHOD could be the next franchise chapter on the way out. There is a good chance that RHOC will eventually return since it was the chapter that started it all and it used to be very popular. Bravo is more likely to put effort into rejuvenating that particular city.

But it’s less clear if the network is planning to recast RHOD or just ax it all together. RHOD never took off the way some of the other city chapters did, even newcomers like Real Housewives of Potomac and Real Housewives of Salt Lake City did much better in ratings and social media feedback than RHOD ever has.

Then there’s the racism. None of the Real Housewives franchises are exactly known for being politically correct and each has faced its own controversy, but last season of RHOD saw some truly ugly behavior from LeeAnne Locken.

After she was fired, it came out that LeeAnne’s co-star, Brandi Redmond also made an unsavory, racist video mocking Asian people. Instead of firing Brandi, Bravo wanted to see if she could be redeemed during the season they hired Asian housewife Tiffany Moon.

The whole thing wound up being awkward and strange and this season has been riddled with racist microaggressions from the other ladies toward Tiffany, especially from Kameron Westcott. It wasn’t always fun to watch how things went down during RHOD Season 5.

D’Andra Simmons talked about the future post-RHOD Season 5 on a recent podcast.

One of the other potentially damning things facing RHOD is the fact the franchise really doesn’t get the same amount of attention from Bravo. During the most recent episode of D’Andra Simmons’s podcast I Don’t Give a Rip, she talked about how RHOD has never even had a three-part reunion despite having enough content.

Even she isn’t sure if the show will continue, noting that the show is just very different from the other franchises.
