RHOC: Braunwyn Windham-Burke needs to discover her own narcissism
By Amanda Cline
Braunwyn Windham-Burke continues to use The Real Housewives of Orange County as a platform to complain about her extremely charmed life.
The Real Housewives of Orange County continues to feature Braunwyn Windham-Burke as the main housewife while the rest of the women are merely pawns in her story. On this week’s episode of “The Braunwyn Show,” Braunwyn spent 90% of the episode complaining about how everyone else was doing things for her incorrectly, such as the wrong flavor of cake. She’s forever on a journey of self-discovery but somehow has missed all of the red flags that she is a complete narcissist.
Poor Sean Burke is just chugging along trying to support his wife of 25 years while she is out forging a new life for herself – without Sean. Sean commented that Braunwyn was out creating new friendships and relationships with other people and that it was hard for him. Braunwyn noted that it was hard for her because Sean was jealous she was out meeting other people in the middle of a global pandemic. “It’s difficult in a relationship that you are building close bonds with your friends and we’re just doing our parenting duties.”
Braunwyn wanted Sean to plan activities for her and he did not plan enough. She wanted him to work on himself and stay off his phone. She wanted him to care for their seven kids while she galavanted across the country to meet women of all kinds.
It does appear that Braunwyn is uncomfortable with her old life. Her straight, co-dependant, married for 20-years, boring housewife life that she lived for 40 years. Now that she’s Braunwyn 2.0, sober, a freshly out lesbian with a girlfriend, that old life is really just slowing her down. But that isn’t Sean’s fault. The fact that she doesn’t want Sean to date someone or be happy on his own shows that she isn’t ready to give that old life up yet.
Braunwyn repeats all of the time that she feels trapped in her giant mansion with a club and a pirate ship, but she’s truly trapped in her old life and she’s the one to blame. If she was really progressing like she says she is, she should be able to let Sean and her old life go. The progress Braunwyn is making is purely performative.
Even in her interactions with Elizabeth Lyn Vargas, she pulled all of the abuse information out of her on camera because it made her look good to “care.” When Elizabeth called her later to chat, Braunwyn no longer cared because it wasn’t filmed. We have enough fakeness in the world, did we really need a whole season of “Braunwyn talks about how great she is?” No, we did not.
The Real Housewives of Orange County is on Bravo every Wednesday at 9 PM.
