RHOP: Michael Darby gets a pass but Monique Samuels doesn’t?
By Amanda Cline
The Real Housewives of Potomac reunion part 2 showed Monique Samuels composed, while Ashley Darby got off easy with questions about her husband.
The Real Housewives of Potomac has been dealing with violence of different sorts this season (and beyond). The physical fight between Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard Bassett took up most of the season, but the situation with Michael Darby wasn’t far behind. Andy Cohen has been holding Monique alone responsible for the fight between her and Candiace, but he didn’t hold Michael or Ashley Darby responsible for his assault of MULTIPLE people.
When Andy asked Ashley questions about the situation, he basically let her off the hook completely. He asked no pertinent questions about all of the people Michael has assaulted, on, and off-camera. He has been accused of sexually assaulting people, two of which were Bravo employees or members of the production crew. Andy noted that the cameraman was uncomfortable, but Ashley didn’t seem to mind.
“I know the context is not that serious to me. The producer was very funny and very flirtatious with Michael, not in a sexual way. Michael meant no harm. If you ask that person, it was a very innocent thing.” Andy replied that it wasn’t consensual and he was a little mortified. She said that the staff member who he first assaulted called him “zaddy” so it was okay. This guy needed his job and needed to be working, so he didn’t press the issue. Sounds like a safe working environment.
Meanwhile, Andy seemed to want to incarcerate Monique because she didn’t cry when discussing the fight with Candiace. He refuted her side of the story but when they flashed back, the footage backed up what Monique had to say. Candiace cries at the drop of a hat but Monique remains composed and he takes issue with the composure?
If Monique is being held responsible for the physical fight that the courts did not find her responsible for, I guess it is okay for Michael to go around grabbing butts because Ashley says it was flirtatious. Ashley and Andy are making it okay for Michael to assault people because they aren’t holding him responsible for his actions. If this were a female staff member, would someone hold him accountable? Would they be icing him out like they are Monique?
Perhaps at this time, it is better to get a moderator that can be a bit more impartial across the board. Assault of any kind clearly isn’t okay, so hold everyone accountable if you are going to hold anyone accountable. Do better, Bravo.
The Real Housewives of Potomac will be back next Sunday at 9 PM.
