Below Deck Mediterranean: 3 reasons Sandy Yawn disappointed us
By Amanda Cline
The Below Deck Mediterranean reunion started last night and it didn’t make Captain Sandy Yawn look any better in the grand scheme of things.
It seemed at every turn this season, Below Deck Mediterranean star Captain Sandy Yawn had the chance to redeem herself and show a little compassion, which she failed to do. Instead, Sandy doubled down on her actions and stuck to her guns, even if they were probably the wrong thing to stick to. But have no fear – the laundry is done!
Laundry is the #1 priority
When discussing the fact that they had enough stewardesses to do laundry, Sandy was quick to note that bigger boats frequently have more guests and less help. She insisted that the laundry should have been done because once Hannah Ferrier and Christine “Bugsy” Drake took over, laundry was fine.
Sandy even blamed Robert Westergaard’s relationship with Jessica More as a reason for laundry not getting done. Perhaps there were just bigger fish to fry at the moment, Sandy? Since you were firing people at such a rapid pace that no one could keep up with all of the chores?
Kiko could have used some support
When it came to the situation with Hindrigo “Kiko” Lorran, most people felt that he did not get the support he needed. When the Vegas night situation happened, Sandy basically fired him on the spot but required him to keep working through the charter. If he had the tiniest bit of support from anyone besides Hannah, it probably would have made a huge difference.
Sandy insisted Kiki didn’t have the experience and that he wasn’t cut out for the job. She also insisted that she lifted him up and supported him every day, but it certainly didn’t come off that way. Sandy would linger around the table for the guests to sample the food before asking, “What’s wrong? Do you like it?” Ma’am, this is not an Applebees.
Playing favorites
Sandy had every opportunity to be the bigger person in the situation with Hannah and every time that opportunity presented itself, Sandy took the low road. She seemed to want nothing more than to remind Hannah how much she disliked her. We get it, you prefer Malia White.
Hannah noted that Sandy didn’t like her because she was only there to get paid, not because she loved yachting. “When you have people that are there just for a paycheck, eh, they’re there for a paycheck.” Inadvertently, Sandy confirmed she did not like that Hannah was just there for a paycheck. Even though Hannah is obviously done with yachting in general, Sandy seems pretty pressed about her presence at the reunion.
It is worth noting that Hannah and Aesha Scott both quit yachting after working with Sandy this season. Somehow, Sandy is clueless about normal social constructs while also being a helicopter boss. Quite a toxic combination for the leader of a floating hotel and honestly, we expected so much more from her!
Below Deck Mediterranean is on Bravo Monday nights at 9 PM ET!
