Vanderpump Rules: The hypocrisy of Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright
By Amanda Cline
Vanderpump Rules is not known for conquering tough social issues, but last night was low, even for Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright.
The time has finally come for Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright to lie through their teeth about their chosen pastor and his beliefs. When the Vanderpump Rules pair announced that Ryan Dotson was chosen for the wedding, viewers almost immediately started tagging Jax and Brittany in his hateful posts dating back from 2015 and more.
Bring out the receipts
When all of the Vanderpump Rules girls were on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on January 15, 2019, Brittany told the audience she didn’t “know” her pastor was that way. She also said she would never want to make anyone uncomfortable. But they knew. And she didn’t care if it made people uncomfortable.
Jax and Brittany spent most of the time up until their wedding tweeting about how they love gay people and are friends with gay people so it would be impossible for their pastor to not share the same beliefs (?). Jax also claimed that he wore a sparkling speedo at Pride one year so he couldn’t be intolerant of gay people and those identifying with the LGBTQ label.
No, Jax. Just…no.
But in last night’s episode, Jax compared being homophobic to believing in cows as a religious belief. And though it was well known that Jax and Brittany knew their pastor was homophobic, they only did something about it when social media wouldn’t leave them alone about it. It seemed that it only actually bothered Lisa Vanderpump and Ariana Madix that someone so intolerant was invited to lead the ceremony. Since Lisa is such a huge advocate for the LGBT community, she put her foot down on this.
But if it weren’t for Lisa saying something, their choice of pastor would have been totally fine with Jax and Brittany. Because the only person Jax truly loves in the world is himself, and no one has ever spoken out against loving yourself being a sin.
And the only thing Brittany cares about is the wedding, and she’s certainly not going to let some silly, hateful pastor get in between her and her corn-dog Kentucky Castle monstrosity of a wedding.
Vanderpump Rules is on Bravo every Tuesday at 9 PM!
