Luann de Lesseps struggled with her sobriety on RHONY last season but has decided to drink again on occasion, according to PEOPLE.

RHONY star, Luann de Lesseps, spoke to PEOPLE about her sobriety and said that though she has been living alcohol-free for the most part, she has decided to drink again in a “responsible” manner.  Luann has not been shy about giving reports to media outlets lately, but some say that her admission to PEOPLE was a way to get ahead of the unsavory reports of Lu’s drinking lately.

Luann has reportedly been seen drinking in public as of late and people were taking notice.  She went to people in order to put a positive spin on the news, which it did.  But a huge part of Luann’s storyline last year was her sobriety, and she even dragged Sonja Morgan to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting while in Miami.

But Luann never really claimed to identify with the “alcoholic” label.  Her issue was knowing her limits, and knowing when too much was in fact, too much.  Luann voluntarily checked into rehab after her 2017 arrest, and went a second time, missing the RHONY season 10 reunion.  Luann agreed to not drink in order to stay out of jail.

She struck a plea deal agreeing to “not possess or consume alcohol or illegal drugs” which she only violated once after drinking a mimosa after her Countess and Friends Cabaret show.  Luann failed an alcohol test after the mimosa incident which set off a probation violation and landed her back in court.  But eventually, she made it through the probation period and is free to live life on her own terms now.

No matter the case, Luann’s healthy and happiness is very important.  “I’ve always said my journey is day by day. I’m toasting to a happy new year ahead!” Luann told PEOPLE.

The Real Housewives of New York will be back later this year on Bravo.
