A Jeopardy show insider is throwing shade at the Real Housewives in the wake of rumors that Alex Trebek’s cancer has sparked a search for a new host.

Real Housewives often aspire to seek fame beyond the reality TV world, such as acting (Real Housewives Of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes was a delight in her role as Roz Washington on Glee).

So could a Real Housewives star ever become a game show host? Apparently the answer is no if the question involves Jeopardy.

Real Housewives: Don’t apply to become Alex Trebak’s Jeopardy replacement, says insider

Jeopardy host Alex Trebek recently shared the devastating news that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now the show allegedly is seeking a replacement, according to Radar Online.

Even though Alex devoted decades to Jeopardy, the podcast Straight Shuter: Naughty But Nice claimed that when the cameras aren’t rolling, the show is seeking a new host.

Rob Shuter cited sources who claimed that because of Trebek’s age (78), the show had already been discussing a new host.

“Now with his health scare, that process has been accelerated,” said the insiders.

It seems as if someone who’s been on a reality TV show such as RHOA or RHONY should have a chance. Bethenny Frankel, for example, often appears on talk shows and even had her own show at one point.

But they aren’t looking for a Real Housewives type of replacement, according to the sources.

What’s wrong with Real Housewives for Jeopardy host?

Famously intelligent, gracious, and witty, Trebek was the perfect host for the show. And there are three years remaining in his contract. But if Alex’s health requires him to step down early, the network doesn’t plan to retire the show with Trebek, according to the insider.

“Jeopardy is still a very successful show and makes millions for the network,” pointed out the source. “The idea has always been to ‘refresh’ the formula, not change it.”

And apparently that approach is bad news for any Real Housewives stars who hope to apply.

“Talk about his replacement has always centered around finding a female host and someone of color,” clarified the insiders.

Although the producers reportedly want a host who, like Alex, is “smart and well-educated” as well as “respected and trustworthy,” personality counts too.

“They are aiming more for Gayle King than Real Housewife Nene Leakes!” summed up the insider.
