LeeAnne Locken at Miss USA 1989: She made history for Arizona?
By Mary Jane
LeeAnne Locken revealed that she had competed in Miss USA during Wednesday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Dallas.
LeeAnne Locken is a proud carnival kid. She always talks about her rough childhood on The Real Housewives of Dallas and it’s clear that her childhood was unlike any other. But during last night’s episode of the show, LeeAnne opened up about her pageant past, revealing that she had participated in various pageants throughout the years. She shared that the last pageant she participated in was Miss USA in 1989.
As the women tested her pageant skills, they were all rather impressed. How could such a skill go unnoticed? LeeAnne Locken revealed that she had actually made it rather far in 1989. Despite not making it onto the top three spots, she was in the top 10. She represented Arizona at the event, losing out to Texas who won the first place. Other states that went further than LeeAnne include Oklahoma, New Jersey, Louisiana, and Georgia.
While a top-10 placement is nothing to be ashamed of, LeeAnne Locken did make history for the state of Arizona. Even now, almost 30 years later, only two other people managed to get Arizona in the top 10. In addition, Arizona has had two winners at Miss USA (in 1965 and 1980), and the state has had three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes. In other words, her achievements are outstanding.
While LeeAnne Locken didn’t share any photos from her Miss 1989 pageant days on Instagram or Twitter as The Real Housewives of Dallas aired last night, it’s clear that it’s something that makes her proud. She’s proud that she was able to make it that far, considering she had a rough childhood. While she’s still dealing with some issues on the show, it sounds like the pageant world gave her some structure as a young woman that she’s only thankful for today.
Were you surprised to hear about LeeAnne Locken’s success in the Miss USA pageant in 1989?
