Yes, Real Housewives of Toronto is effectively canceled

It sure sounds like anyone hoping for a second season of Real Housewives of Toronto will be waiting forever.

The Real Housewives universe seems to be forever expanding, but there is some occasional contraction. That seems to be the case for Real Housewives of Toronto, which has been on “hiatus” for a while now.

Not all the time, but typically this isn’t a huge deal. Game of Thrones went on a hiatus and premiered late in 2017, so it can happen to any show. In this case, it seems to ring with finality rather than hope.

We hate to break it to you, but Real Housewives of Toronto has gone the way of the white wine consumed on the shows — dry.

It’s not a new report, but a recent question on Reddit reminded me that:

A) Housewives of Toronto was a thing
B) There’s a lot of emphasis on was

That’s because, for all intents and purposes, the show is over. The series was not picked up for a second season and the writing is on the wall that it’s never going to be. Don’t look for a revival to happen, unless something insane goes down.

A report from The Star in June cited sources saying that the series was not being given a green-light for a second season. While it mentions ‘hiatus’ in the headline when referring to the series, it also mentioned Big Brother Canada as being on hiatus right around the time we learned it was actually canceled.

So while fans (not many of them, apparently?) may be looking into semantics when it comes to hiatus versus canceled, it’s all a fruitless endeavor. If the show was coming back for a second season, that would have already happened. The announcement would have been made that the show was filming and we could have had closure.

You can cling to whatever hope you may have that the show will be coming back, but not getting a green-light means a show isn’t coming back. When it’s an entity in a larger franchise like Real Housewives, the hopes for revival are slim to pretty much none.
